Salad bar part 2. I am addicted to salad bars. First off, we decided to try this place which is across from our hotel, it looks small from the outside but its pretty good size. Next, they have you walk past all of their amazing desert creations and home made breads and then they seat you. The dinner menu consists mostly of sandwiches, burgers and some other specials. I got one with a chicken breast smothered with sauteed veg and cheese, a side of broccoli and they give a potato side PLUS a bread side. If you opt for the scone, it is kind of like a yeast donut....and delicious. If you get a dinner special, yes the prices are a little high, but you end up with a lot of food in the end and don't be shy with their salad bar. They have tons of toppings (unlike a previous post of mine grrr), tons of breads, bagels and rolls to choose from even though they give you one with dinner. Yes, I will come here again, hopefully for breakfast.

One star is being generous. Absolute nightmare. Homemade baked goods BS...the homemade pastries where from Costco. The salad bar was a disaster. There was a pile of black bananas and the rest of the food bowls where empty and not appetizing. We got up and left before they could take our drink order. GO To the thunderbird!!!!!!!!!!

Ate here last night as we were in town. The food was just average except the Salad Bar that was good. The service sucked. We ordered and hit the salad bar and 1/2 hour latter our food showed up with no butter for the baked potato and no roll or scone. also needed a refill on water. The waiter said he would be right back with it but 15 min latter gad to hunt him down. Also the ribs I ordered were cold and really salty. The wife ordered CFS and it was a decent piece that was in house made but not seasoned well and just mix gravy. It looked like they had not cleaned the place in a year by the cob webs on the lights and the dirty carpets. We would never go back.

We tried the Thunderbird last night for dinner, but since we had one more night in town we wanted to give this place a try. Walked in and were escorted to a room off the main one, with some food and debris on the carpet. We sat down, watched some European tourists walk in and leave because of the floor, and decided the main room might be more pleasant to dine in. Undeterred, we both got tuna melts and they were DELICIOUS. The uneven cuts of sandwich bread were proof that the bread is homemade. The service was just fine - the owner was very sweet. The place could - no, should - be cleaner but we were happy with our meal. By the way - the portions seemed ENORMOUS my by L.A. standards.

Staying in Kanab and not a lot of breakfast choices. This was 20 minutes away. Staff was not friendly, kinda sluggish. Husband and son had omelets, hash browns and homemade wheat toast, and a homemade huge biscuit. They both liked it. I had a pancake that was kinda heavy and I ordered a ham steak. Ham steak was dry and a little tuff.

Really good food at good price. I had a cheese burger. Ask for fries sauce. Really good on fries and hamburger. Would eat here again. Pies looked really good but was to full for dessert.

Excellent service. Good food - I liked the sloppy joes made from scratch. Quick response to requests. Todd described it well.

Not good ... in many ways ! Food quality poor, level of cleanness not satisfying, service quality mediocre, generel atmosphere not really restaurant like. Can't really recommand that place !

Tasty meals with a cozy atmosphere. Had breakfast here three days in a row during our stay. Service was great. Also, if you order pancakes, they are huge!

Huge pancakes and bowl of fresh fruit. The fruit we got was actual sliced fruit- like melons, strawberries and grapes. Only gave it four stars because it was a bit of a wait. But totally worth it because everything was made to order!

The entree, chicken cordon bleu, was, while not traditionally prepared, excellent. Unfortunately, all the side dishes need butter. They don't have butter. Just margarine that was melted and separated and gross. So I didn't try the very nice looking corn on the cob. They serve something they call a scone , really just a deep fried roll, with a bottle of something that says honey and butter on the front and corn syrup, margarine and artificial flavor on the back. I didn't try it. I tried to try the scone/roll but didn't have enough napkins to dry the grease off my fingers. I decided not to. Nice waitress (note singular) really needs help. One server for the popular local spot just doesn't do. Would I try again? Now that I know what/how to order here, yes. The folks are nice and the chicken was great.

I was starving, they were open. Friendly service, quick response to my hunger with a self-serve salad, then a proper Reuben sandwich. They saved the day! I'd stop here again before I bothered looking for anything else on the drive.

Eh. The booths are sticky, the decor kitschy; the food is not offensively bad but not good either. Overstuffed, overdone omelettes and tough biscuits. Friendly service, though we were serenaded by the sweet sound of a bored waitress arguing with a grizzled local for the duration of our breakfast.

We were looking for a breakfast place in this town and Golden Hills was our pick. There is another place across the street that looked more biker bar-ish but since it didn't have a sign for breakfast, we settled on this place instead. Golden Hills also has an electric sign that flashes they have over 100 types of omelettes, we were sold. So we come in, there are a couple tables/booths already taken. The decor could be updated, it had that country kitchen kind of feel and the booths were a little aged and sticky. But the food was solid, colorful, fresh, and flavorful. We were all happy with our meals. Their prices are great and the portions were hearty. They were setting up for the lunch crowd and the salad bar. The service was great, we really enjoyed our meal here and would definitely come back. If you're passing through here visiting the parks, stop by here for a meal!

Way out here there is precious little choice of places to eat. Someone said there are three restaurants but we only saw two ... the Golden Hills and Subway. Duh! No brainer. While the Subway was located in what seemed to be a busy gas station, we saw endless streams of people walking across the highway to and from Golden Hills. Hmmm, yet the parking lot was deserted. Strange. So we kept true to form and made the instant decision to try the local mom & pop, which is located adjacent to an old run-down motel that seemed equally deserted. The first and most obvious thing we learned is this place is a freaking gold mine! They have some sort of deal with the tour buses that hit Utah's Canyon Country and Arizona's Grand Canyon in which the buses tell them what time they are due to arrive and this tiny hole-in-the-wall gears up like an army at war to gird for the impending onslaught. The buses seem to be packed with Japanese tourists who speak little English and the restaurant speaks no Japanese but so what? The tour directors point their cargo toward the salad bar which is ravished like a herd of locusts in minutes while being replenished non-stop by the smiling friendly owners and their kids. The tourists' plates are piled a foot high and the staff constantly pours more fresh salad ingredients in while the customers are in in the process of scooping the stuff onto their plates. We were a bit reluctant. A tour bus had just walked out and the tour director was finishing paying a bill of several hundred dollars and we thought "what kind of crap will we be served"? Nope, the staff said come on in, they gave us a booth knowing the next busload of Japanese tourists was only minutes away, and they treated us like family. I so wanted to try the loaded salad bar (complete with wonderfully fresh looking fruit) but the bus had already arrived and the line stretched out the door, so I ordered a reasonably priced club sandwich. Turns out that Golden Hills bakes their own bread, which is richly buttery and crunchy and simply awesome. Everything in the sandwich tasted garden fresh and although I was starving it was just too much to eat in one sitting (I took a to-go box). It's hard to describe the frenzy of this remote place having busloads of tourists arriving every few minutes. They have to be making a mint. But no way do I begrudge them ... they worked their butts off and never once lost their friendly smiles and "can do" attitude. I loved them, loved the food, loved the service and command you (smile) to not pass them by. Golden Hills is a gold mine in the middle of nowhere!!

Amazing burgers--super crispy lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. The fry sauce was tasty, too. Service was delightful.

In Mount Carmel junction, there are just a few options for food: this place, the Thunderbird restaurant across the street, and the Subway next store. Sooo... not too many options. Anyway, my boyfriend and I came here for a later breakfast today and it was pretty good.. nothing mind blowing, but overall, it was pretty tasty, which was nice. The inside of this restaurant is really quaint and homey, and overall, we liked it.

Adorable little Mom & Pop (And kids!) place along the highway. There is also a motel and gift shop, but we didn't visit those. Plenty of fun trinkets to be purchased in the restaurant's vestibule, though, if you don't have time to see the full shop. We were served by the daughter of the proprietor, and though she may not be too eager to take over the business, she was quite proud of some of the offerings. I had the Golden Hills Super Bird sandwich. All the sandwiches are made on bread baked by her mother. It was quite a treat! My friend got the BLT and it was seriously loaded with B! We all tried the soup and salad bar in lieu of fries with the sandwiches. She promised us the broccoli soup was the best anyone had ever had-- and it was pretty darned good! You could tell it was made in-house from scratch. Give this place a try! I'd like to come for breakfast some time, bet they do that well, too!

This place deserves way more than 3.5 stars. My father, brother, and I ate here at least 4 times in the week we where here and not once did we have a bad experience. Everything I ordered was done to perfection and the staff was amazing and friendly. We where willing to drive all the way to Kanab (or however it is spelled) for a good meal but trust when I tell you there is no need. Cheers from the dollar folder.

There were three restaurants in the area (including a Subway), so I asked the guy who worked at the gas station which one he would recommend (I figured the locals would know where to eat) and he recommended this place. We were happy with the food. Three of us had burgers for dinner, and we all liked them. My daughter had spaghetti, which she always likes, and she liked it here too. It is important to note that my four-star rating is on a scale, since this place is in the middle of nowhere. As places in the middle of nowhere that are near a major national park go, this one made a burger that we all liked. One review said it was not clean, but it was clean when we were there (it is not much to look at, but it was clean).

My kids chose this restaurant because they saw 4 stars on yelp.... But didn't notice only 5 reviews. Unfortunately they walked in ahead of me and sat down. I knew the moment I walked in that we should leave immediately but the kids were embarrassed to get up and leave since the waitress was nice. This place was not only run down, it was filthy!!!!! There were remnants of food scattered everywhere amongst the worn out carpet. The restrooms were abominable as well. I can only imagine what the kitchen must look like. The food was edible but that was about it. My youngest daughter had an upset stomach the rest of the night. Save yourself from this place.

All of their bread is homemade!!! The biscuits are delicious. The pancakes are not only massive but also delicious. The only downer was the service was kind of slow but the homemade food and classy atmosphere made up for it!
